Holiday Fun with Family and Friends

My family and friends make Christmas time so much fun. My mom and dad with their tradtional Christmas music and instruments to play along with, along with great food, make it a special time. Decorating the tree with the kids and Russ is always fun. Gotta have egg nog and cookies! God has truly blessed me with good friends who can share with us in our traditions and laughter too. May God bless all of you, who read this, with His joy, peace and grace, always.

Alicia's Birthday

My sister Alicia turned 39.99 plus shipping and handling. We celebrate her life for the special wife, mom, daughter and sister that she is. I love you Alice! May the Lord continually bless you and your family with all His best.

Old and New

The kids and I have been really busy with school, work, church and the house. Sometimes it seems that life whizzes by and you don't even remember what you've done. Life gets sort of old, after doing the same stuff day in and day out. The remedy is to do something new! Simple, right? This weekend I look forward to working on our house and getting it ready for new floors! Finally! We got some new artwork and I'm excited about the pieces. I'd like to have it all done for the holidays. I have to take some before and after pictures and post them.

Out with old and in with the new! (Anyone have a suggestion for a new body?) :-)

Friday Night is Special

Every Friday night you can find my parents enjoying each other's company while sipping on their favorite drinks and eating some kind of surf and turf. This happens every Friday without fail. Neither my dad or mom make any outside plans with anyone, to do anything, except be home and relax with each other. Daddy's favorite music is playing, mom's mixing her gimlet and little toothpicks are poking out from the cheese and salami appetizers. I'm not sure how long ago this started but I suspect it was after the last of us left the house, which surprisingly, was me when I left for the 5th time! Of course anyone is invited to join them, which is great cause when you feel like some olives, stale tostitos and a beer, you know exactly where to go. :-) (That is if you don't mind the smooching.)

I love my parents very much. Especially for teaching me that in the life of a family and more importantly between a husband and a wife, being together counts and that Friday night is special.

Cheers!

Whitney Nelson Update

Prayer has been answered for Whitney Nelson and family. She won't be having surgery before birth. According to the exams she had bleeding on the brain early on and that condition disqualifies her from the surgery. Her parents were praying for a clear decision as to whether they should participate in the surgery or not and God answered it for them. Keep them in your prayers as they go home to Michigan and continue in God's trust and protection during the pregnancy.

Spotlight on Garrett

This is my son Garrett Douglas Wilbur posing with my grandmother. He's a character and a half. He'll be 14 on Oct. 8th. He's about 6'1" and loves being tall. He loves basketball and can't wait to attend Villanova just like his dad did. He's funny, witty and creative. I love my son very much and I pray for him daily, asking God to help me be a better mom, so I can help him realize the purpose God has for his life. If we could just get reading books and reports down, we'd be alright. Looking for a tutor for him this year to help with English and study skills. Know anyone? He asks questions you'd probably wouldn't know how to answer as a mom. It's the whole middle school age mentality I suppose. One question he asked me was, "Would you love me more if I were a squirrel or Godzilla?" Godzilla's one of his faves. He used to walk around the house pretending he was the giant lizard (or whatever he is) by putting a belt down the back of his pants so it would hang down like a tail. He'd let out a big Godzilla screech and then stomp on top of his toy cars. Fiercely and intently looking at his next target (mom), he'd screech once more and then...stop, look around and say, "Could I have some chocolate milk?" Gotta love it! Here's to you my son!

One Year Better!

This past Friday, I turned 41. Woohoo! When I look at the actual number, it looks wierd. Not a very significant number, per se but it's solid. If statistics prove right, I have a whole other half left to my life. The best part is I can make sense of what that can look like. The first few years of life are the foundational years and experiences and now it's about taking what I learned in the first half and making it better in the second. Thanking God for a great family, wonderful friends, work I enjoy, and plenty more memories to make, I look forward to being one year better!

Good News!

I heard from one of the expectant moms who is having problems with the pregancy that I wrote about below titled God can do what He says He can do.

Here's what she wrote: I want to thank you for all of your prayers and concerns. God is good and prayer works. I went to the doctor yesterday. He did his own tests and exams and said that the internal bleeding has stopped. Whatever the hospital saw doesn't seem to exist anymore. I have seen what great things God can do. I believe that he will take care of me through this time, as well. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.

She didn't read my blog but what a testimony to God's mighty and victorious right hand who does help us and uphold us. Keep praying!

God Can Do What He Says He Can Do

It's been a great couple weeks. I'm enjoying my children, my time with Russ and time with my friends and family and yet lately I've heard of some pretty hard things going on with people around me.

Some mom's are having severe problems with their pregnancies and marriages are splitting up. These are hard situations. Please pray with me that God will strengthen and comfort these people. You might be tempted to ask why should they believe that God would help them in all of this. In the Gen 18:9-15, Sarah and Abraham doubted that they could have a son at such an old age. Sara especially asked, "How could a worn out old woman like me have a son?" Why should have Sarah believed what he said? The messenger of God asked, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" He then told her that a year from now he'll return and she will have a son. What confidence! Why?

If you read the beginning of that chapter, it says the Lord appeared again to Abraham. While he was camped, he suddenly noticed 3 men standing nearby. I find it so amazing how God chooses to reveal Himself. He appeard to Abraham in the form of 3 men. I like to think it was the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit but I'm not an expert in these things to say, but it's my thought. It was God Himself asking if anything was too hard for Him. He said and He did it. This is the confidence we can have in our God. God did it! What about these babies and marriages? What will He do? We don't know but there is something we can do and be confident in, even when things look terrible.

We can believe that God can do what He says He can do! We know what He has said he would do and believe is not too hard for Him. My prayer for these moms and hurting marriages is that they believe God when He said in Isaiah 41:10 "Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand." No matter what happens, you have God with you and He will uphold you. If your circumstances never change or creative miracles don't happen, God is with you and will help you and strengthen you. Believe God can do what He says He can do.

Best Vacation Ever

Woohoo!! What a great vacation! If you've never done a cruise and are thinking about it, then let me try to persuade you into doing it. It was amazing! There is something for everyone and soooo much food! We just got back today and God provided for us new ports of call and perfect weather. Due to Hurrican Dean we headed to Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay (private Carnival island) and Nassau Bahamas, instead of Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Tortola. I hope you enjoy the pics and all I can say is Woohoo!
